Moorhead Lions Donate $500 to Coats for Kids

Fewer children will go without coats next winter thanks to a five hundred dollar donation made by the Moorhead Lions Club. The Moorhead Lions hosted a bowling charity event in late February at Sunset Lanes in Moorhead. Ten teams of four people bowled for prizes, bragging rights and to help a good cause. Proceeds from the event went to support the local Coats for Kids organization, which provides winter apparel to children throughout the valley.

“It was great to see so many members of the community and area businesses come together for a good cause. There is a definite need in the valley for the Coats for Kids program and the Moorhead Lions are proud to be able to support them,” said Brent Berg Moorhead Lions President.

The estimated poverty rate in Cass and Clay counties jumped from 10.1 percent in 2006 to 13.4 percent in 2007, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s annual American Community Survey.

The Moorhead Lions group is made up of young professionals from the area. The group was established in June 2007 and has made raised money to support organizations such as Goats for Haitians, MN Lions Eye Bank, Lions Hearing Foundation, Lion’s Leader Dog Program, Coats for Kids, Clay-Wilkin Head Start, the Ronald McDonald House and more.
