No secretary’s report this month due to Riverarts being held during our monthly meeting time (August) and July’s meeting cancelled.
Treasurer’s report: We have club dues “due” this month. Brenda will have more information @ the next meeting. Please contact her at Brenda.l.houglum@wellsfargo.com if you have questions. We raised 91.05 from the fishing opener. August Riverarts was 105.93 for the suckers and 42.56 from the face painting.
Old Business
August Riverarts went very well. Our sucker sales were huge; our face painting was good but some improvement was needed. Decision was made to have better worded signs in order to guarantee some sort of donation. Also, to have some sort of way for people to line up, put their money in the pail and then line up for the actual face painting. We discussed other ways to make this event a little bit more successful.
Dragonfest is scheduled for Sept. 16. Brent Brenda and Darla made it out to this event and served pancakes to some very grateful and generous college students!
New Business:
Darla suggested that we get a group together to put on a supper or Christmas cookie baking at the Ronald McDonald house this coming holiday season. She is going to look into that.
Our speaker for the night was Amanda Beadell, a Dietetic Intern with Concordia College, Moorhead
Amanda spoke about her mission to Uganda funded through -the Missions Made Possible, a non-profit group based in the Twin Cities that make it possible for people to go on mission trips. While in Uganda, they hold nutrition classes, eye exams, give out donations such as mattresses and hold hygiene classes. The Coon Rapids Lions club donated all of the eye charts and the mission was able to distribute 2000 glasses. Feed my starving children, another non-profit donated the rice mixtures that were given out to families. The rice mixture are made with rice, soy nuggets, chicken flavoring, and dehydrated vegetables. Our club discussed possibly getting together and putting together the rice mixtures in preparation for future mission trips.
Join us for our next meeting October 14 @ Moorhead Fryn Pan
